The Story

The caduceus — two serpents coiled around a winged staff — is one of the oldest symbols of mediation in Western tradition. Carried by Hermes, the messenger who moved between the world of the living and the dead, it represented the capacity to navigate opposites: commerce and spirit, healing and harm, the mortal and the divine. The staff did not belong to one world. It moved between them.

This pendant places that symbol at the center of a coin face alongside a wolf in a mountain landscape, maple leaf, and the inscription Cultivating Altruism. The combination is not accidental — the wolf as pack animal, the caduceus as bridge between worlds, the mountains as the terrain that demands something real from the people who cross them. Each piece is hand-cut and individually polished.

What It Represents

The Caduceus

The two serpents represent duality in balance — opposing forces that do not cancel each other out, but coil together into something functional. The wings above suggest elevation: the capacity to rise above the conflict between opposites and move freely between them.

The Wolf

The wolf is the oldest symbol of loyalty through difficulty — an animal that survives not through solitude but through the integrity of the pack. It does not perform its commitment. It lives it.

Cultivating Altruism

The inscription is a declaration of intent rather than a description of achievement. Altruism is not a state — it is a practice, something cultivated over time through repeated choices that cost something. The word cultivating is doing the work here.

Design Highlights

  • Caduceus with wings at center — wolf, maple leaf, and mountain landscape in the field around it
  • Cultivating Altruism inscription on banner below; Heli Mint arched above
  • Four-prong open coin setting — no drilling or soldering on the coin; can be removed and kept as a collectible
  • Ornate skull bail above the frame; coin diameter 38 mm (approx. 1.5 in); box chain included

Aging & Patina

Hand-cut from a modern coin replica and individually polished by hand. The silver-plated copper surface is designed to develop a unique vintage patina over time — making each piece a personal relic rather than a mass-produced accessory.

Styling Suggestions

  • Worn alone over black or dark neutral — the caduceus reads at distance, the wolf and inscription reward a closer look
  • Layered with a flat chain or other symbolic pendants for a mythology-influenced dark stack
  • With dark academic, heritage, or alternative styling where symbolic meaning is worn as identity
  • For those drawn to healing symbolism, wolf archetypes, or the philosophy of altruism as practice

Step 1 - Measure with ruler 01

Cut a thin strip of paper or use a piece of string. Wrap it snugly around the base of your finger.

Step 2 - Mark the overlap 02

Mark the point where the paper or string overlaps with a pen. This marks your finger's circumference.

OPEN BAND RINGS

Select Veilhinge rings feature an open band design and can be gently adjusted ±1 size from their original shipped size for a comfortable fit. To avoid metal fatigue, we recommend minimal and gradual adjustment — do not bend the band back and forth repeatedly.

SIZING TIPS

Measure at the end of the day — fingers are slightly larger then, giving you the most comfortable fit.

If you're between sizes, size up for a more comfortable wear.

Knuckle larger than the base of your finger? Measure both and choose a size in between.
