The Story
A skull emerges from a mass of flowing curls and ornate scrollwork, its exposed spine descending into the composition below. LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the 1964 date remain visible around it — familiar elements of coinage transformed into something darker and more elaborate.
The contrast is deliberate: beauty surrounds mortality, ornament surrounds decay.
Everything fades. That does not make it any less beautiful.
What It Represents
Memento Mori
The skull is the oldest reminder of a simple truth: life is temporary. Not a warning to fear the end, but a reason to pay attention to what comes before it.
Impermanence
Beauty, status, youth, and possession all change with time. The elaborate ornament surrounding the skull makes that contrast impossible to miss — even the most beautiful things are temporary.
Beauty in the Temporary
Impermanence does not make something meaningless. It can make it more valuable. This piece is a reminder to appreciate what is here precisely because it will not always be.
