The Story

The Knights Templar were founded in 1119 to protect pilgrims on the road to Jerusalem. Within two centuries they had become the most powerful military order in the medieval world — bankers, builders, and warriors operating across three continents. The cross on the chest was not decoration. It was a declaration: this person has taken a vow, and the vow has weight.

This pendant places a fully armored Templar knight — sword drawn, kite shield raised, cross emblem visible on the chest — at the center of a 1879 coin face, hand-cut and surrounded by the E Pluribus Unum inscription. The figure stands in the open frame as if still on the road. Each piece is hand-cut.

What It Represents

The Warrior Monk

The Templar knight embodied a contradiction that fascinated the medieval world: a man of faith who was also a man of war. The sword and the cross were not in conflict. They were the same commitment, expressed in different directions.

The Cross as Oath

The Templar cross was not a symbol of religion in the abstract. It was a mark of personal vow — worn by people who had given up ordinary life for something they believed was worth more than comfort or safety.

The Coin as Historical Record

The 1879 date and E Pluribus Unum inscription place the knight in a specific American moment — a country still defining itself, still deciding what it stood for. The figure in the center has already decided.

Design Highlights

  • Armored Templar knight hand-cut at center — sword drawn, kite shield raised, cross emblem on chest plate
  • E Pluribus Unum inscription and 1879 date on the coin border, star detail running the full circumference
  • Four-prong open coin setting — no drilling or soldering on the coin; can be removed and kept as a collectible
  • Ornate skull bail above; coin diameter 38 mm (approx. 1.5 in); box chain included

Coin Setting & Care

The four-prong open frame holds the coin without drilling or permanent alteration — the coin can be removed and displayed or collected separately. The prongs are metal and have natural give; avoid opening and closing the setting repeatedly, as metal fatigue will develop over time.

Aging & Patina

Hand-cut from a modern hobo-style coin replica and individually polished by hand. The silver-plated copper surface is designed to develop a unique vintage patina over time — making each piece a personal relic rather than a mass-produced accessory.

Styling Suggestions

  • Worn alone over black or dark neutral — the knight reads at distance, the coin inscription rewards a closer look
  • Layered with a flat chain or cross pendant for a medieval-influenced dark stack
  • With dark academic, heritage, or alternative styling where historical symbolism is worn as identity
  • For Templar history enthusiasts, medieval collectors, or anyone drawn to the warrior monk archetype

Step 2 - Mark the overlap 02

Mark the point where the paper or string overlaps with a pen. This marks your finger's circumference.

OPEN BAND RINGS

Select Veilhinge rings feature an open band design and can be gently adjusted ±1 size from their original shipped size for a comfortable fit. To avoid metal fatigue, we recommend minimal and gradual adjustment — do not bend the band back and forth repeatedly.

SIZING TIPS

Measure at the end of the day — fingers are slightly larger then, giving you the most comfortable fit.

If you're between sizes, size up for a more comfortable wear.

Knuckle larger than the base of your finger? Measure both and choose a size in between.
